Happy Groundhog Day!
After a ridiculously cold week all throughout Canada, many anxiously awaited the result of today’s traditional Groundhog Day prediction.
I really don’t understand the significance behind whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow because when I was younger I was extremely confused by the whole thing. The tale goes that if the groundhog sees his shadow, he goes back into his burrow and winter continues. But if it’s cloudy, he doesn’t see his shadow so spring will arrive early. As I saw it, if the groundhog sees his shadow then it’s sunny out, which is a good thing, right? So I always thought if he saw his shadow then spring should arrive early. I don’t know….
In any case, only one of the three groundhogs saw their shadow today. The other two did not, therefore winter will not continue for another six weeks and spring will be arriving early. Thank goodness!
The groundhog that saw his shadow is located in the U.S. and the other two are in Canada.
